General Provisions
Article 1

Across the Lake is an annual festival which be taking place along the shore of the Dojran Lake, Macedonia.
The full festival name is ‘International Film Festival Across the Lake’. The short festival name is ‘Across the Lake Film Festival’. The second edition of the festival will be held in the period of 19-23 July 2023.

The festival is supporting filmmakers from the Balkan and Mediterranean region, providing a platform for exhibiting their ideas and stories
The main festival programme (international competition) will entail an array of films, including feature, documentary, animated and experimental films.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Main festival programme submissions:

  • Films must be either directed by directors from the Balkan or Mediterranean region, or inspired by a county in these regions.
  • Films must be premiered no longer than 24 months before the start of the festival.
  • Films’ duration must be over 70 minutes.
  • No TV or online broadcasting of the films is permitted during the festival.
Short film programme submissions:
  • Films must be either directed by directors from the Balkan or Mediterranean region, or inspired by a county in these regions.
  • Films must be premiered no longer than 24 months before the start of the festival.
  • Films’ duration must not exceed 30 minutes.
  • No TV or online broadcasting of the films is permitted during the festival

  • The film selection will prioritize regional premieres

FESTIVAL JURY

The jury of the main festival programme (feature films) will be international, comprised of 3-7 distinguished representatives of the film-making industry.No more than one representative from the same country should be appointed. The members of the juries must hold at least two sessions/meetings during the festival to discuss the film submissions. The Jury`s presidents of both juries have the right to impose their opinion on the films in competition and their evaluation principles.
The jury’s decisions are made by open ballot. Decisions will be reached by a majority of the votes. In a case of equal number of votes for two or more films, the vote of the Jury`s President will be decisive

FILM SUBMISSIONS

Film Submissions
Article 9

Directors, producers, distributors, film production or distributing companies, national film institutions, or anyone authorized to represent the films may enter submissions for the competing and non-competing programmes. Submissions must be made through the official online submission form, including information on the film contributors, a brief synopsis, a long synopsis, technical details, director’s biography and filmography. Incomplete submission forms will not be considered.

All submissions must comply with the Festival Submission Rules and Regulations. The person administering the submission is responsible for the accuracy of the information provided.

The submission deadline for the films in all the programs is the 5th of June 2022.

Submissions must be accompanied by the applicable submission fee per entry.

Film entries may be submitted in the form of password-protected URL links or DVDs sent to the following address: Cinemon Media Factory, Kuzman Kapidan no.28, 1000 Skopje, Macedonia All URL links must be active until the 20th of October 2022. The films must be accessible for download. The DVD must contain the last version of the film in the original language, and non- English films must have English subtitles.

The Festival reserves the right to keep the DVD copies of the selected films and make additional digital copies for its archive.

Subject to consent is whether the digital copies of the films may be shown at free-of-charge non-commercial events.

FILM SELECTION FOR THE FESTIVAL PROGRAMMES AND SCREENING

Article 16

Following the films selection, the festival will inform the distributors, producers, or the authorized representatives of the selected films by e-mail. The announcement of the final list of selected films for each programme will be no later than 15 days prior to the festival opening.

Each selected film in any festival programme can be premiered once and can have no more than two more screenings in the course of the festival. Public broadcasting of the festival films is not permitted.

FILM COPY SUBMISSION AND RETURN

Screening copies in HD or DCP format of the selected films selected must be made available to the festival no later than the 15th of July 2022. In addition, dialog lists in English, three film photos, and a photo of the director should be submitted. Sharing a trailer, posters or additional promo materials for the films is desirable, but not compulsory.

The festival reserves the right to reject technically defective film copies and low-quality copies that might obstruct the screening.

Shipping fees related to the submission of film copies should be covered by the participants. The festival is obliged to return the copies within 4 weeks' from the festival’s closure to the address provided by the participant, covering all shipping fees. The festival undertakes the responsibility to compensate for any damage of the copy which has occurred in the period from its receipt at the festival center to the time of shipping.

Article 21

The festival undertakes the responsibility for protecting and guarding the screening copy since its receipt at festival center. The festival undertakes no responsibility for any damage that might occur during the shipping of the copy.

The festival appoints a three-member jury of experts to evaluate the technical correctness of the film copies and their format (hard drivers, USB, 35mm film prints) upon receipt and before shipping them back to the participants.
