SPECIAL MENTION
The jury would like to especially emphasize the quality and lucidity of the realistic and at the same time magical contemporary film story from the suburbs, using the documentary film codes very skillfully, reveals to us the parallel world of people on the margins, a world that is present but not visible in all the big cities in Europe. That's why the jury decided to highlight the film AND BEYOND THE NIGHT by director Guillermo Garcia Lopez and awarded with a special mention.
BEST FILM DIRECTOR
For the subtle and surprisingly mature female and male director's view dealing with the journey
from childhood to the world of adulthood, the jury decided to award the prize for the best
Mediterranean film director ex aequo (equally) to two directors – Alexandra Lazarovski and
Gjorce Stavrevski for their films Svezdana and Are you a man? The two awardees, each in their
own specific way, regardless of whether they deal with masculinity, or with grief due to the loss
of parents, perfectly mastering the tools of cinematic expression manage to create an
emotional connection through the cinematic lens of a child's view, reminding us of all those
children problems, big and small, that each of us has experienced.
BEST SHORT FILM
In a world that has to silence people, to silence the individual to express his point of view and
fight for his moral values, a world that limits the free personality that is given to the human
being by birth, in a world where many people remain silent in front of injustices and crimes that
often happen, in such a twisted world full of destruction there is a person who cannot keep
quiet, and he sacrifices himself to take care of the other!
With a superior film mastery, he sublimates all the elements of film art throughout the short
form, guides the audience to be witness along with the main character and raises numerous
questions.
The award for the best Mediterranean branch and grand film is awarded to THE MAN WHO
COULDN'T KEEP SILENT directed by Nebojsa Slijepčević.
GRAND PRIX
For an original author's view of social deviations and problems faced by modern man today, in a
dystopian society of alienated individuals, treating the eternal theme of life and death, while
using authentic author's aesthetics of the current so-called "Strange Film Wave", the Grand Prix
for the best Mediterranean film is awarded to the feature film, the film SILENCE 6-9, directed by
Christos Pasalis from Greece.
